KUNZELMANN ART
Building on a foundation of creativity.
Beneath the shadows of the golden domes of St. Stanislaus Catholic church, along the street Presidents and Politicians once paraded lies the retail opportunity in The Kunzelmann-Esser Loft building. This iconic building offers 7500 sq ft of flexible open space ready to be transformed into the community destination the neighborhood deserves.
Historic Mitchell Street was once the retail mecca of Milwaukee featuring shopping like Goldmann’s Department Store and Shuster’s Store. The building was built in 1910 to warehouse and showcase the world-class furniture of the Kunzelmann-Esser Furniture Company. Today this building features 67 unique loft apartments catering to the artistic and entrepreneurial spirit, along with the open retail space waiting for the right visionary to continue the historical tradition. Ownership is willing to assist and work with the new tenant in order to ensure the success of their business idea.

Art Mile Detroit is now live! Tap the link in bio to see our digital presentation 𝙄𝙣 𝙏𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙃𝙤𝙪𝙨𝙚, curated by Darryl DeAngelo Terrell (@blkboyshine), featuring artists Morgan Bouldes, Taylor Childs, Cydney Camp, Bree Gant, Laura Gibson, Deja Milany, and Qualeasha Wood.⠀
⠀
𝙄𝙣 𝙏𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙃𝙤𝙪𝙨𝙚 considers the home to be the first space where we learn critical thinking, a place where we find our voice and discover our values. The seven participating artists selected for Art Mile experiment with artistic techniques that were born in this space and could be found on the walls, exploring notions of personal narrative, family, ancestral lineage, and selfhood.⠀
⠀
Pictured here is Taylor Childs' 'Bathroom Sanctuary' (2021). In Childs' work, she explores representational themes of family, perception, consumerism, and bling culture. Even more, the artist is interested in the after-effects of the African Diaspora and how it influences the Black community today. Through the manipulation of textiles, a medium she works closely with, Childs constructs dialogues surrounding contemporary African American life. ⠀
